Question for Shatz

I was wondering if you've heard of this book that's come out recently. It's called "How soon is never?" by Marc Spitz (He's a writer for Spin magazine).

I'm not exactly sure how to explain the story so I'll just write out the back cover. It's long, so feel free to skim.

Fast-forward some 15 years. Joe Green is making a living as a rock journalist, still recovering from a wicked post-college smack addiction and slumming with youngsters who ironically "appreciate" the seminal 80's music that once gave his life meaning. It's too late to go home, or is it?

What if Joe Green can get the Smiths back together? What if reuniting the long-broken-up band can reverse the passage of time and bring back the magic of youth? What if it helps him win the heart of the woman he loves? </div><hr size="1"></blockquote>


Have you heard of this? I wasn't sure if it would be something that interests you or not. I know you're quite fond of The Moz, but I'm not sure how you feel about The Smiths. Or books, for that matter.

I'm about 2/3 way through it, and it's not bad. a little to angst-y in parts.

how ironic that i read this post on the same
day that i discussed 80's fashion nightmares:
how white t-shirts were mostly covered in brightly
colored paint splatters while the black ones
were typically more of the neon splatter variety.
(neon was VERY popular) JAMS were also discussed.
(heaven forbid ANYONE that remembers those)
as well as crisp-white chinos (thank billy joel).


but we aren't discussing those nuances....
about the book....

first let me address the 'i'm not sure how you
feel about books' comment....


i hate books. i never understood why, for generations,
people would chronicle their events and dreams
on something that could easily be stolen and/or
burned. but hey... better than a corn stalk.

ok... i lied. i love books.
i'm even quite partial to the smiths....

i will definitely be checking the local bookstores
(ebay) for this.... but i must warn you...

i'm already committed to reading some other
(sure to be ghastly) read.... while i haven't
actually cracked its cover, i promised that i
would read it.... (eventually).

so rest assured i will put this book on my to-do
list.... as i have grown quite detached from
books... and i just need to get off my ass and
break away from this computer.

As much as I hate to admit it, I was the queen of neon clothing in the 80's [img]redface.gif[/img]

I finished the book yesterday and it was good. It started out being about how The Smiths saved this boys life, but morphed into a little bit of a bitter love story (for lack of a better term)
But it's definatly worth reading.

For some reason the book made me get out all my Joy Division cds and listen to them religiously...I'm not sure if that's a weid reaction or not.

Ok, to recap - You should read this book.
